How often do I need Chiropractic treatment?
That is a very good question. And there is no one correct answer.
Sometimes you know yourself when a chiropractic adjustment is needed because you feel pain or you have injured yourself. You may not feel quite able to do the regular yoga poses or the golf swing is not right. There may be a stiffness that you can’t seem to stretch or exercise away. You just feel not quite right. It can be tricky though. Neuro-muscular symptoms may be very obvious, more subtle or can even be entirely symptom free. Neuro-physiology tells us that only 1 in 7 nerve receptors are nociceptive, or pain sensitive.
What is the Benefit of a Check-up if I feel fine?
The point of a chiropractic treatment is to help you feel fine. To feel your best.
The benefit of having a regular chiropractic check-up is that your chiropractor to is able to identify and help correct the subtle changes in your neuro-muscular system. The ones that don’t present as intense pain or injury at the moment – but could lead to greater pain in the future if left untreated. Your body does not function at it’s best during times of illness, stress, sleep deprivation, when you’re working too long hours, and perhaps not eating as well as you should etc.
Our joints, tendons and muscles are packed with proprioceptors, balance receptors that keep in check not only our balance, but also our muscle tone, alertness and flexibility. When our proprioceptive system is out of balance it also affects our breathing, digestion, sleep and immunity.
What About My Child?
“The louder they cry, the less they are hurt!”
That is only sometimes a true statement, but it is true that children are not equipped to tell us some of the subtle changes happening in their bodies. The grazed knee, yes, but sometimes the limp that resulted from the same fall goes unnoticed for days or weeks.
We must remember that our children are growing, developing, learning beings.
Their bodies should be as balanced and finely tuned as they can be in order for optimal growth, development and learning to take place. Chiropractic treatment is good for both their bodies and their minds.
